Help Cody Nusbaum in His Fight for Recovery

     In 2011, my husband, Army veteran Cody Nusbaum, was shot 11 times while serving in Afghanistan.

     Doctors told us he might never walk again. What followed was unimaginable. Cody spent three years in the hospital, undergoing more than 150 major surgeries. During his recovery, he also contracted E. coli, leading to additional life-threatening complications. His body endured more trauma than most people could survive.

But he survived. He fought through surgeries, infections, and years of rehabilitation. He proved doctors wrong — he walks. He runs. He shows up for his family every single day.

At one point, doctors also told us we would likely never be able to have children. Today, we have five.

But not all wounds are visible. Cody lives with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and severe PTSD from combat. The neurological damage and trauma from his injuries continue to affect his daily life. He has worked incredibly hard to heal and rebuild his life, but the long-term effects of TBI and PTSD remain an ongoing battle.

     We are now seeking a medically supervised treatment called Ibogaine — a therapy that works at the neurological level of the brain and has shown promise for people suffering from traumatic brain injury and severe PTSD. Because this treatment is not currently approved in the United States, it must take place in Mexico, and the VA does not cover the cost. The treatment, travel, medical screening, and aftercare are expensive, but we believe this could offer him real healing after everything his body and mind have endured.

     This is a man who survived 11 gunshot wounds, over 150 surgeries, and fought to walk again. His journey isn’t over. He survived the battlefield. Now we are fighting to bring him fully home. Any support — donations, prayers, and shares — means more than we can say.
